Performance periods and responsibilities

Performance work starts with a review period and meaningful criteria, then gathers evidence from the appropriate reviewers. Workroomly separates cycle administration, reporting and the assigned person's assessment workspace. Learn those boundaries before interpreting a status or submitting a review.

In this chapter

  • Set the period and assessment windows
  • Establish participation and access
  • Use Pulse for the assigned assessment
  • Read 360 feedback and Goals without overstating them
  • Turn the result into a development task
  • Reconcile workforce reporting

Set the period and assessment windows

Open People → Performance. Tabs include Appraisal Cycles, Reviews, 360 Feedback, Manager Review, Self-review and Goals Feed. In Appraisal Cycles, find the intended cycle before New Cycle. The top search can be labelled Search review ID; do not assume it filters cycles by name.

Assessment evidence and development follow-through

Appraisal Cycles row separating the review period, participant count and cycle status.

The cycle row displays frequency, start, end, participant count and status. These labels help locate the cycle; they do not prove which employees participated or what evidence supports their assessments. Open the exact cycle or review for those questions.

Create Appraisal Cycle contains Cycle name, Review frequency, Start date, End date and four self/manager opening and closing controls. Frequency choices include Quarterly, Annual and Bi-annual. Review dates describe the period being assessed; assessment windows describe when the self and manager work can occur. The window controls are labelled local time and can overlap or run separately. Match all four to the approved schedule rather than treating the end of the review period as the automatic submission deadline.

The inspected cycle form does not include criterion weights, participant selection or a rubric editor. Keep the agreed criteria and evidence plan in the organisation's approved supporting material until their supported configuration route is known. A Template column in a list is not proof that a template was configured.

Establish participation and access

In People → Performance → Reviews, locate the employee and open the exact review. Check the cycle, assigned assessor and account-linkage messages. An employee can exist in Directory but lack the linked workspace account needed for self-review.

Where Manage participation → Assign alternate assessor is available, the assignment is a review responsibility, not a change to the organisation chart. Use the correct eligible employee and an appropriate HR reason under the approved process. Do not assume an alternate assessor receives a notification merely because an assignment was saved.

Use Pulse for the assigned assessment

People → Performance → Manager Review is a reporting view. The assigned manager's work is in Pulse → My Journey → Appraisals → Manager Review. Locate the exact employee/cycle card and read its window state. A Scheduled card can offer View appraisal; an Open window can expose Assess direct report.

Before submitting, compare the assessment criteria with actual work samples. A rating should have an explanation of what was done, the context, any support and the remaining gap. Keep observed work separate from assumptions about motivation or personal characteristics. Correct factual errors before copying them into later decisions.

After an authorised submission, reopen View submitted assessment for the same employee and cycle and compare the rating and full comment. A manager submission can coexist with an overall In Progress badge because other review work remains. Do not submit again solely because the aggregate status has not changed. Self-review, manager review and final result are different components.

Read 360 feedback and Goals without overstating them

360 Feedback has search and frequency/status filters. Its columns include employee being reviewed, reviewer, type, rating, strengths, improvements, status and action. A Pending row with Rating 0.00 and blank narrative is not a completed zero assessment. An entry count is not a count of usable submitted perspectives.

Use Goals Feed to inspect linked goal evidence where available. Absence of a linked goal is not proof that no work occurred; it means that link is not established in the review. Do not invent a goal association to support a rating. Compare the actual submitted evidence and the review's intended scope.

Turn the result into a development task

For a fictional coordinator, the agreed criterion is to prepare three schedules without overlapping confirmed commitments. Two independent schedules are correct; one needs a corrective prompt. The comment should explain that pattern, not simply say “good performance.” A useful next task is another independent schedule with an exception, a named reviewer and a review date. Course attendance may support development but does not prove the task is now performed independently.

If the self-review is Awaiting employee because the account is Unlinked, resolve the access dependency through its owner. Do not submit a self-review as someone else or alter employment status to bypass it. If the manager window is Scheduled, compare the local-time schedule rather than changing dates merely to open the form.

Reconcile workforce reporting

When reporting performance or learning completion, define the population and cutoff before calculating a percentage. Two submitted manager reviews out of three assigned is not two fully completed cycles. Summary and Compensation Reports can use different populations and labels. Match exact source rows, periods and units; a dollar symbol or rounded card does not establish a complete compensation basis. The useful management result identifies progress, the specific outstanding component and the owner of the next action without inferring unsupported causes.
