Submit a leave request
Request leave for the intended dates and check that the correct request is waiting for review.
Before you start: Know the leave type, dates and relevant policy. Confirm your available balance and any coverage arrangements through your normal process.
Steps
1. Open People → Leave → My Requests in the correct workroom. Confirm you are using the intended signed-in account: this request form does not provide an employee selector.
2. Check for an existing request with the same type and dates. If it already exists, skip steps 3–6 and review its current status in step 7 rather than submitting it again.
3. Select Request Leave. Choose the exact Leave Type, checking the full name rather than the first similar option.
4. Set Start Date and End Date, including the correct year. Read the calculated Duration and its unit. Compare it with the intended absence and policy; do not change dates just to force a preferred day count.
5. Enter a concise Reason with the information needed for the request. Avoid unnecessary health, family or other private details.
6. Review the type, both dates, duration and reason, then select Submit once. If the response is uncertain, return to My Requests and look for the original request before trying again.
7. Find the saved row and check its type, dates, duration and status. A Pending request is awaiting a decision; it is not yet approved leave.
8. After the reviewer’s decision, return to the same request and read its current status. Check the corresponding balance where your role allows it, or ask the People owner to clarify an unexpected result.
Expected result
Your intended leave request is saved once with the correct date span, and you can distinguish its submitted state from the later decision.
Common pitfalls
- Your employee record and signed-in self-service identity are not interchangeable. Resolve an incorrect requester before submitting.
- Leave balances belong to a particular person, type and year. A balance from another scope cannot justify this request.
- A missing pending card does not by itself establish approval. Read the saved request’s status.
