Create a goal objective and key result

Store your goal as a clear hierarchy with a useful measure and the right planning period.

Before you start: Decide the goal, objective, metric, target, unit and period. Agree who will own and review the result. You need permission to create Goals records.

Create the goal

1. Open Goals → Goals and check the active filters. Look for an existing goal before adding another. If the correct goal already exists, open it and continue at step 5 instead of recreating it. 2. Select New Goal and enter Goal title. 3. Choose the planning scope: Company, Team or Individual. Check Owner, Team, Year and Quarter against your plan. Do not assume the defaults match the current quarter or intended team. 4. Select Create Goal. Find the saved goal and reopen it to confirm the title and cycle.

Add an objective

5. Expand the goal and look for the intended objective. If it already exists, open it and continue at step 7. Otherwise select Add objective; the goal detail may show Add another objective. 6. Enter Objective title and confirm Parent goal. Review Owner, Start date and End date, then select Add Objective. 7. Open the saved objective and check its dates. Blank inputs can still result in default dates, so read the saved values before treating them as your schedule.

Add the key result

8. Under the objective, look for the intended key result. If it already exists, open its detail and make the checks in step 10 without recreating it. Otherwise select Add KR, or Add another key result from the objective detail. 9. Enter KR title, confirm Parent objective and complete Metric, Target and Unit. Use a meaningful metric description rather than leaving a generic default such as Count. Review Owner. 10. Select Add Key Result. Open its detail and read the complete Measurement, Owner and Team and Parent chain. Confirm that both parent levels are correct.

Expected result

Your hierarchy is saved under the right goal and objective, with the intended period and measurement. Keep the counting rule and supporting information alongside the result so another person can review it.

Remember

If a save looks uncertain, search for the record before trying again. Creating the hierarchy sets up the plan; update progress only when you have a result to report.
