Connect supporting work to the right goal record without treating the link as measured progress.

Link a task to a goal and prepare the handoff

A task can support a goal, objective or key result. Link to the exact record your team uses, then explain the contribution in the task brief.

Add the goal reference

1. Open the saved task and confirm its Board and title. Identify the existing goal record and whether it is a Goal, Objective or Key Result. 2. Scroll to Linked Entities. Check for the intended reference before adding another. If the correct link exists, skip steps 3–5 and continue at step 6. 3. Select Add link. In Link Entity, choose Goals under Select Module. 4. Under Select Entity Type, choose the correct type. Do not leave Goal selected if you need a Key Result. 5. Use Search & Select to find the exact title. Select it, then select Add link. This link action saves the reference separately from Update Task. 6. Leave and reopen the task. Check the linked card’s title and type, then use Open to confirm the destination.

Make the next action clear

7. In the task description or a comment, explain what this work contributes, which output/version is ready, who needs to act next and what they should check. Save description edits with Update Task; send a comment with its send arrow. 8. Agree the next owner and timing rather than assuming a saved note has been read.

Expected result: the task points to the intended goal record and the next person has enough information to act.

Remember: linking or completing a task does not by itself establish goal progress. Measure the key result using its agreed evidence and update it through the Goals workflow.
