Check material supply before production

Follow the exact component from its requirement through purchasing and Inventory before treating it as available for production.

Before you start

Identify the production order, product, required component SKU, quantity, unit, warehouse and intended location. Production and purchase orders can have similar-looking references; keep the module and complete identifier together.

Trace the requirement and supply

  1. Open Produce → Production Orders and the exact job. Read Summary, Materials, Operations and Output separately. Processed operation units, produced units and consumed material answer different questions.
  2. In Materials, open the component’s procurement requirement. Match its source production order, uncovered quantity and linked purchase request. Use Open in Procure to follow that source instead of creating another request because the material still shows short.
  3. Open the linked purchase order. Compare its supplier, source request, goods line, quantity, unit and current Approval, Issue, Receiving and Billing states. If issue or another prerequisite is unresolved, give that exact record to the purchasing owner rather than repeatedly attempting the action.
  4. Open Procure → Receiving → Expected and then Receipts as needed. Read each row’s full order reference; a search term or similar item name does not make an unrelated receipt the right one.
  5. For the matching goods receipt, compare delivered, accepted and held quantities. A received unit is not necessarily eligible stock. Confirm the actual Inventory item and warehouse relationship, not just a typed SKU or free-text description.
  6. Open Inventory → Receiving and find the matching source and line. Check its SKU, warehouse, Expected, Received, Accepted, Remaining and quality disposition. Use the linked Putaway tasks view to check the destination, completed quantity and actual final location.
  7. Independently open the component’s Stock and the named warehouse position. If no matching Inventory receipt or eligible position exists, keep that supply handoff open; do not invent a manual receipt to make the modules agree.
  8. Return to the same production requirement and use Refresh Supply. Check live stock, other commitments, incoming supply and existing same-job allocations before any Reserve Materials, issue or consumption action. Do not repeat a movement already recorded.

Expected result

The production owner can distinguish genuinely eligible component supply from an order, pending receipt, held quantity or proposed adjustment.

Remember: A pending adjustment is not posted stock. Inspect the exact adjustment in Inventory → Planning → Valuation → Adjustments and verify the resulting stock separately. A service receipt, another product’s output or a similar catalog code cannot supply this component.
