Update a key result’s progress
Calculate the supported result first, then save and check the correct progress value.
Before you start: Have the key result’s counting rule, target and latest supporting information. Make sure you are updating the intended record and checkpoint.
Steps
- Calculate the result using the agreed rule. For a fixed, equally weighted set of ten items, eight qualifying items means 8 ÷ 10 × 100 = 80%. Exclude duplicates and keep the history of corrected or repeated attempts.
- Write a short update explaining the checkpoint date, what changed, the calculation and what remains to be done.
- Open Goals → Goals, expand the correct goal and objective, then match the key result’s full title and Measurement.
- Read its existing Progress, Confidence and Status. Check whether another person has already entered a newer result before replacing the value.
- Find P, the progress control, and distinguish it from C, confidence. Set the intended percentage with P and read the numeric value rather than estimating from the slider’s position.
- Wait for the change to settle. The progress control saves automatically; do not look for a separate task-save action.
- Open the key result’s detail and wait for it to load. Check Progress, then read Confidence, Status, Measurement and Parent chain separately.
- Leave and reopen the same key result. Confirm the retained percentage. Inspect the parent objective and goal separately rather than assuming their values have automatically changed.
Expected result
The correct key result displays the intended progress value, supported by a calculation another teammate can understand.
Remember
Confidence describes your outlook for success, not the amount completed. If you cannot set the required precision or the saved value is uncertain, resolve that issue before reporting an exact new percentage.
