Turn a chat agreement into a task
Record the next action from a conversation with a clear owner, finish condition and due date.
Before you start
Read the latest agreement in Chat. Separate the person reviewing material from the person changing it and the person tracking the result. Agree the next action before assigning it to someone.
“Revise the plan to name the preparation owners” describes work; “Discussed the plan” does not describe a finished result.
Record the next action in Board
- Open Board in the correct workroom and choose the existing board for this work. Search Table or Kanban for the exact action, checking active filters. If it already exists, skip to step 6 without resetting its current details or status.
- Select the top + → Create New → New Task. Confirm Select board and enter an action-focused Task Title.
- In Description, include the source conversation reference, current material or version, accepted scope, expected output and finish condition. Add the exact due time and time zone when a date alone would lose part of the agreement.
- Use Assign Members to select the agreed owner. Choose your own account if you own the follow-through. A request to a colleague is not an accepted assignment.
- Under Status & Planning → Due Date, choose the agreed date and select OK. Review the full brief, owner, date and status, then select Create Task once.
- Reload the board’s Table view, find and open the saved task, and check its title, full description, Assignee, Due Date and status. Scroll sideways if those columns are not immediately visible. If an existing task needs an agreed correction, use Update Task and reopen it to check the change.
- Return to the conversation when a progress update is useful. State which board and task now track the action and what is still pending; keep the work record as the source of its current status.
Expected result
The conversation has a findable, saved next action rather than an implied commitment.
Remember: Chat does not automatically create this task. Completion requires the agreed finish condition—not just a reply, an accepted request or a populated date.
