Join a meeting with deliberate media settings
Enter the intended room and check your camera and microphone choices before joining.
Before you start: Confirm the current meeting, room and intended audience. Know whether you need audio, video or screen sharing, and prepare the material you plan to show.
Steps
- Open the exact room in Meet or the intended appointment. Choose the room’s Meet control or the appointment’s Join entry when you are ready to enter.
- On the prejoin screen, check that the destination is correct. Set Camera off and Microphone muted if you do not want to transmit video or sound on entry.
- Review any browser permission prompt before responding. Browser access to a device and the meeting’s muted state are separate settings.
- Select Join Meeting once. Check the conference identity and participant list after the provider interface opens.
- If the meeting requires audio, check hearing and speaking separately with an intended participant. Confirm that sound reaches the chosen output and that your listener can hear you; a microphone icon alone does not establish either direction.
- If the embedded meeting offers Open in new tab and you need a standalone view, use that offered control rather than constructing a different meeting address. Keep track of any extra connection you open.
Expected result
You know which meeting you entered, what media you are transmitting and whether the capabilities needed for the discussion are working.
Remember
If the room, audience, recording indication or permission request is unexpected, resolve it before continuing. If audio fails, keep the exact symptom and ask for help rather than assuming a particular network cause or opening repeated sessions.
