Set up a named place for a report and reopen its saved dashboard draft.

Create a BI space and dashboard draft

A dashboard draft gives your report a clear home. Start with a useful question and description; add populated reporting content only after the source is ready.

Before you start: You need permission to create a BI space or dashboard. Check for a suitable existing space and dashboard first so you do not create duplicates.

Choose or create the space

1. Open BI → Explore → Switch BI Space. Select the intended existing space if it is already available.

2. If a new space is needed, choose Create New Space. Enter a recognisable Space Name and an optional description, then select Create Space once. Check that the new space is selected.

Create the dashboard

3. With the correct space selected, open Dashboards and check the list. If the intended dashboard already exists, open it and skip steps 4–5; continue at step 6. Otherwise, select New Dashboard.

4. Enter a clear Dashboard Name and a description explaining the question it will answer. For example, Project review readiness with a description identifying the project and the items you intend to measure.

5. Select Create Dashboard once. Find the matching card and open it. A newly created draft can have 0 widgets; it is not yet a calculated report.

6. Leave and reopen the dashboard. Check its name and description. In Studio, confirm the saved draft and page rather than assuming that closing a dialog saved the intended object.

Plan the useful content

Choose a small set of outputs for the decision: an overall count, a meaningful group comparison and a list of exceptions often work better than many decorative charts.

Show the counts behind percentages and include the population and time period in the report description. Before building or publishing populated visuals, confirm the dataset and compare a known result with its source.

Your result is a saved dashboard draft in the right space. A space name is an organisational label, not proof of private access.
